Hearing Loss

I went to an audiologist this week and found that I have mild to moderate hearing loss. Both my primary care physician and the audiologist were surprised to see someone at my age with so much hearing loss. It is hardest for me to hear the high ranges so that I struggle the most to hear women's and children's voices (especially S's, F's, C's...any sound that reaches to the higher range) and doorbells and phones. I could get a hearing aid, but the audiologist said that if I focus on someone's face and pay attention to their lips I should be able to communicate just fine. At first I was relieved to have confirmed what I have suspected for a long time. But I have since spent a couple of sad days over this. My doctor said that I need to be especially careful around loud noises and wear earplugs to noisy events. And for those who think I just live in my head or am ignoring everyone--that's not quite so.

I guess this means that your soon to be 40 year old sister may need her hearing checked as well. Cute blog.

Erica it's funny that you just had your hearing checked too because I've been worried about my hearing and thought for sure that I was going deaf because I ask for a lot of repeats. I went and had this whole big test done and found out that I have troubles hearing lower frequencies. Maybe when we hang out I can cover the highs and you pick up the lows (ha ha).
