Today a boy received a balloon and cupcake delivery. I said, "Can I look at the cake?" He said yes, so I opened the box and looked. They were cupcakes and had sprinkles and swirled frosting, each had a different topper. Cherry, Nut, Candybar.
"They are beautiful" I said.
"I know," he said, "I want to eat them all right now."
Class was in the computer lab so he couldn't. We just looked at them.
I love this student because he has read all of The Scarlet Letter and not just the Spark Notes. He gets excited for pop quizzes. He turns his work in on time. He is always in class. He is polite. He wins wrestling competitions. He is friends with a complete doofus, because that's what you do when you've had a friend since childhood.
And I'm glad he has someone who gives him cupcakes and balloons on his birthday.

Speaking of birthdays--your present hasn't arrived in the mail yet. Hoping for Monday.
I imagine teaching would be a great place to find characters for stories.
