Dog Days of Summer
Yesterday was my last day of summer before going back to the big job. I had some errands to do in Salt Lake--always a happy chore. I checked with the Memorial House for some lost bunting, then brought Charles some nail hooks. We ate at Bruges Waffles and Fritz: a waffle with strawberries and creme fraiche (I pronounced the French terribly and the cashier corrected me), and for Charles, a machine gun sandwich. We talked. Charles told me how wonderful I am, how he wouldn't change a thing about me, how much happiness I bring to others, and I cried. At DI, I unloaded some of Harrison's old clothes but like always found myself rummaging through the store looking for pots or vintage books or milk glass or embroidery. I settled on a white, wool, vintage skirt with side pleats. I may wear it with a polka dot blouse, or a bright blazer. Back- to-school shopping for myself is a good thing about being a teacher.
At home, Mira was practicing the piano, working through a difficult piece. She is already back in school and happy with the structure.
We are holding onto the dog days while they last.
Harrison and Max have taken to middle-of-the-night Slurpie runs.
Charles, Mira, and I lounge on the king size bed way past a reasonable bedtime. Mira and I break into song and Charles doesn't say anything, even though we bug him. Today I taught Mira to sing in harmony. You take the high, I'll take the low. I was much more excited than she when we got it. We all played solitaire until we fell asleep--the fan blowing on high, the covers kicked aside.

Such a delicious snap-shot of Plummerness.
Yay! Glad for a new post:)
The minute school starts, it becomes Indian summer for me, even though it's still August. I love that phrase: Indian summer.
