About Me

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Tomorrow at this time I will be home. After three long years of reading,

writing, and imagining;

of playing the philosopher, the teacher, and the friend. I will finally

come home.

Home has always been my greatest heaven.

Home like Paul Simon.
Home like Lyle Lovett.
Home like Heaven.

At My Defense.
I want my committee to like my stories and tell me so. I want Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault, Italo Calivino, William Shakespeare, and Donald Barthelme to slip off my tongue. I want my brilliance to flow from me.

And then I want to be home.

Oh, I am nervous for you. I still have nightmares about being late to my defense, or forgetting the name of every author I have ever read, or... But in the end, it wasn't nearly as scary as I had imagined it would be. You are smart and witty and you will blow them away with your brilliance. Good luck!

I can't believe you didn't talk about this on Saturday. Lots of luck, although I'm sure you don't need to worry about your brilliance flowing from you. It always does.
