Here is the email I received today. This must be the year for kind rejections.
Erica, I wanted to tell you what a pleasure it was to meet with you. You have a great personality and I really am impressed with your letters of recommendation. The position that I have unfilled is three periods of 8th grade English and three periods of 8th grade reading. Because you are an ARL, you may only teach what is specifically listed on your ARL letter. I checked with the state office and only secondary English is listed on ARL letter. I inquired about reading and they said a letter of authorization to teach outside of the approved area would not be accepted. WIth that said, I cannot offer you a job but want you to know if ANYTHING, that is straight English becomes available at my school you are by far my top candidate. IF any other positions become available as you check the Jordan District web-site call me and let me know and I will put in a good word to any principal who is looking for an English teacher. I don't want to possibly lose you to anyone but I know you are going to be a great teacher. Please give me a call when you get a minute. Thanks, Principal

Don't you love that you can teach college but they won't let you teach 8th grade?
If I had an 8th grader, I would want you to be her English/reading teacher for sure.
NO NO NO NO.
Okay, this isn't over. He's given you a huge kiss on the lips. Something will open up. It will. It will.
I agree with Louise. I was told the same thing--I can only teach in an area in which I have a degree, although I've taught dozens of courses beyond that. The guy loves you. Hang in there.
What! Big dumb dork is all I have to say! Are you kidding me! (Guess I had to say something else) PS Thanks thanks thanks for letting Curtis live over there as of late. He has needed some comic relife!
..or relief as the case may be....
Ahhhh. Hang in there. Seriously, I would die to have you as my kids high school english teacher. There is no way...it will happen for you I know it.
